Take Your Next Vacation at Robot Land

This year’s Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees was all excited to go to Disneyland. In a few years, though, all the cool quarterbacks could be heading to Robot Land.

According to a recent news report, South Korea is planning to fund a robot theme park. The first of its kind, “Robot Land” will be located in Incheon and cost over $560 million.

About 13 percent of that investment comes from national and local governments, who are banking on the theme park as a way to stimulate the national economy. Turning robots into a tourist attraction helps advance cultural acceptance of robots, particularly the lucrative service robot market. In the world’s robotics market, Korea is currently fifth in terms of revenue.

Robot Land will feature exhibition halls, research centers, and even a water park. The gates will open to the public by 2012, although construction at Inchon won’t be fully completed for three years.

Of course, the last time a robot ran a theme park, it didn’t work out well.
