Thomas Stewart Baker was born on January 20, 1934 in Liverpool, England. He is, of course, best known for his work on the BBC series Doctor Who from 1974 until 1981. To date, his portrayal as the fourth incarnation of the Doctor is the longest of any other in the show’s history.

After his run on Doctor Who, Baker appeared on the BBC radio and television series Little Britain and portrayed Sherlock Holmes in The Hound of the Baskervilles in 1982. He has also written an autobiography, Who on Earth is Tom Baker, which was published in 1997.
