Romance is in the air! And that can mean only one thing; our HEPA filter needs to be changed.

Oh wait…

Valentine’s Day! Yeah, that totally explains it!

Cuddle up with that special someone and check out this ultra-romantical edition of GeekDad HipTrax featuring:

“To Have and to Hold” by temp sound solutions

Shawn Phase (AKA: temp sound solutions) is a titan in the chiptune, VGM and demoscene communities. He also has the most classic Konami logo tattoos of any single individual in recorded history. Check out the re-release of his amazing Xylox LP for free compliments of our friends at Pause Records.

“Romantic Cheapskate 2.0” by MC Frontalot

Since you obviously already own this track from Front’s 2007 release Secrets From the Future, why not head over to the SPIN Magazine site to pick up the first single from his forthcoming Zero Day album. It’s a song about Wil Wheaton, and that is the very definition of nerdcore.

“With You” by I Fight Dragons

Please join us in congratulating I Fight Dragons, as the band has just been signed to Photo Finish/Atlantic Records! I’m not sure how major label support will affect our ability to play their future releases, but hope springs eternal.

HipTrax celebrates the New Year by looking back on the old. Specifically, we reflect on a trio of 2009 releases that fell near year’s end, and thus, unfortunately, may have stayed under your radar.

This episode features:

“Autobeat Airbus (live)” by Optimus Rhyme

I hosted Optimus Rhyme’s posthumous Live Vol. 1 as a free download at Hipster, please! for the week between Christmas and New Year’s. This amazing live EP features a classic performance on Seattle’s KEXP from back in 2004. Those who missed it as a free download are encouraged to keep an eye open for the impending iTunes release.

“Tsundere 2×4″ by Rai

Rai Kamishiro’s Electric Sheep was surely one of the brightest and most eclectic releases of 2009. Long in production under a number of different names, the final product boasts tons of Rai’s unique charm and some phenomenal production by Karl “Ultraklystron” Olson. Fans of J-pop, nerdcore and otaku culture are heartily encouraged to check out the full release.

“Summer Glau” by John Anealio

I enjoy John Anealio’s new album so much that we’re giving away a copy to a lucky HipTrax listener! Just leave a comment to this post listing your favorite science fiction property (film, television show, comic, videogame or book), and you’ll be entered to win your own Sci Fi Songs CD. In the meantime, explore John’s blog of the same name for tons of filk-flavored freebies.

Congratulations to Adrian Smith, winner of our 11th Day of Geekmas giveaway! Adrian got a set of Musician’s Dice, a Star Wars iPhone case and a $50 Sears gift card. I will simply assume that those helped to make Adrian’s holiday season a little brighter. If that’s not the case, just don’t tell me. It would totally spoil my holiday high.

On our final day of Geekmas, we have pulled out all the stops. Once again we’ve got a Star Wars iPhone case and a set of Musician’s Dice on the line, but today it’s joined by a $200 Sears gift card! But wait; there’s more. Today’s winner will also take home an HP MediaSmart Server EX490.

Yes, you read that right. All these phenomenal prizes can be yours with a simple email. Because we are the GeekDads, and that is how we roll.

To get the skinny on these grand Geekmas treats, give today’s GeekDad HipTrax Stocking Stuffer a listen. There you’ll discover the secret code word needed to enter today’s contest drawing. Use it as your message title when you email your submission to geekdad.hiptrax@gmail.com by 11:59 PM EST, and you’ll be in the running for all the aforementioned swag! You’ll also get to hear Jonathan Coulton’s “Chiron Beta Prime;” so, in that regard, everyone is a winner.
